Pharmacogenomics (PGx)

Home  /  Providers  /  Pharmacogenomics (PGx)

The process is simple:

  • Healthcare provider orders the test
  • A simple cheek swab
  • The sample is sealed and sent to the lab for analysis.
  • Results are back in 2 weeks
  • Patient meets withan Elara Clinical Pharmacist who explains the results, reviews medications against the analysis and provides recommendations to the healthcare provider.

What The Results Tell You

The results of this test could help plan each individual’s medication choices for the rest of their life. Instead of a trial and error method of prescribing, the test results help patients and healthcare providers get the right medications right from the start.

The labanalyzes each patient’s genetic profile against more than 200 prescription and Over the Counter medications. They provide information on what meds will be effective, ineffective or have negative side effects, based on ther genetic makeup.

The implications of the results are explained to the patient during a Personalized Medication Review (PMR) with an Elara Clinical Pharmacist, who is trained in pharmacogenetics and is a certified PMR specialist.

During this review session the pharmacist explains how different medications are processed based on individual genetics. As needed, the pharmacist will co-ordinate with the healthcare provider to discuss the results of the test and how they impact the patient’s medication.
